News: Utaka scored on his first pre-season appearance, in the 5-0 victory over Kano Pillars at a virtually deserted Abuja National Stadium in Nigeria, after an exchange of passes with Ben Sahar. "We need to score more next season so it's a decent habit to start now," Utaka said. "'We played well and created a lot of chances. It was nice to be able to score in my own country."
Analysis: With Glen Little drawing praise for his pre-season performances, Utaka needed to impress.
|
News: Harry Redknapp has said that Portsmouth fans will begin to see the best of the speedy Nigeria winger this season. But he has also signed Glen Little from Reading, a player who usually plays in Utaka's best position, wide on the right.
Analysis: This has all the hallmarks of a position battle that is unlikely to end up with Utaka starting and finishing many games. Not the same ones, anyway.
|
News: A knock on the ankle forced Utaka off at half-time in the 1-0 home defeat by Blackburn Rovers.
Analysis: Harry Redknapp needs Utaka fit for the FA Cup final, so don't expect him to be risked if not fully fit. Not that he has done much for you lately in any case.
|
News: Utaka has returned to training after missing the past three matches, having suffered a slight hamstring tear in the match at home to Wigan Athletic last month. He is in contention for a place in the squad for the away match against Manchester City on Sunday
Analysis: See how your other options perform on Saturday perform before using up another start on Mr Inconsistent.
|
News: Utaka's hamstring injury has not healed and he is expected to miss the match against Newcastle.
Analysis: Injuries, lack of intensity - Utaka has not been the fantasy force that his early-season form hinted at.
