News: Arbeloa was among several Liverpool defenders to make a critical mistake against Arsenal at Anfield last night when he was robbed by Andrey Arshavin close to his own penalty area, with the Russian going on to the score.
Analysis: Arbeloa is usually among the most reliable defenders in one of the meanest defences around but, with Liverpool having conceded 11 goals in four games, now may not be the time to pick him.
|
News: Rafael Benitez expects Arbeloa to be available for the forthcoming match against Aston Villa, having been out with a hamstring injury. "Arbeloa trained today," the manager said. "It was a light session but I think he'll be OK."
Analysis: That's good news for Liverpool: Benitez does not trust Andrea Dossena, his other specialist right back, to start a game and has preferred to move across of his centre halves in Arbeloa's absence.
|
News: Arbeloa sat out Liverpool's stunning win over Manchester United because he tweaked a hamstring in the warm-up.
Analysis: The club have not revealed the extent of the injury yet, though that he has been struggling with his hamstring of late may cause some concern.
|
News: Arbeloa has a hamstring injury and will miss Liverpool's league match against Sunderland this evening.
Analysis: Martin Skrtel replaced the Spaniard at right back against Middlesbrough at the weekend but the Slovak was outplayed by Stewart Downing. Rafael Benitez may move Jamie Carragher across from central defence this evening.
|
News: Arbeloa could return to the Liverpool side for the match away to Wigan this evening, having been one of several senior players rested for the FA Cup tie against Everton on Sunday.
Analysis: With Martin Skrtel back from injury and Sami Hyypia having apparently risen in Rafael Benitez's estimation, competition for places in the Liverpool defence is strong. Nothing, then, can be predicted with certainty but Arbeloa's absence at the weekend suggests he should start tonight.
